San Francisco

San Francisco, officially the City and County of San Francisco and colloquially known as SF, San Fran, Frisco, or The City, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California.

Northern California

Northern California's largest metropolitan area is the San Francisco Bay Area which consists of 9 counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. The cities of San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and their many suburbs.
Included within the latter National Marine Sanctuary is the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge; this National Wildlife Refuge is one of approximately twenty-five such refuges in northern California. National forests occupy large sections of northern California.
Central California

Central California is a sub-region of Northern California, generally thought of as the middle third of the state, north of Southern California.
Definitions of central California are south of Sacramento and San Francisco Bay.
